Your gateway to importing authentic JDM vehicles to the United States
The 25-Year Rule is a U.S. federal law that allows vehicles 25 years or older to be imported without meeting EPA emissions and DOT safety standards. This makes importing classic JDM vehicles much simpler and more affordable.
The 25-year period is calculated from the vehicle's month and year of manufacture, not the model year. A vehicle manufactured in December 1999 becomes eligible in December 2024.
You'll need proof of age through Japanese export certificate, manufacturer's label, or other official documentation showing the manufacture date.
Unlike newer imports, 25+ year old vehicles don't require any modifications to meet U.S. standards. Keep that original JDM goodness!

While federal import is allowed, state registration varies. Some states restrict KEI trucks to off-road use only, while others allow full road use. States like Montana, Texas, and Oklahoma are generally KEI-truck friendly. Always check your state's specific regulations before importing.
Yes, the 25-year rule only exempts vehicles from EPA and DOT standards. You still need to pay the standard 2.5% import duty on trucks (25% on vans), plus any applicable state taxes. However, you save money by not needing modifications.

Canada allows imports of vehicles 15+ years old, making it easier to import newer models. However, vehicles must still pass federal and provincial inspections, and some modifications may be required. The process is different from the U.S. 25-year rule.
